DC’s Newest Monument is Closer Than You Think

We’ve always felt that Washington, DC, is a big part of our story and a big draw for our guests, so when we heard about the capital’s big celebration of America’s 250th anniversary this year, we knew we had to join the fun.

That’s why we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be bringing Washington, DC, to College Park, MD: we’re constructing a replica of the Washington Monument on our grounds!

Just like the original monument, our replica will be 555 feet tall, with walls of granite and marble cladding from a local quarry north of Baltimore. An interior spiral staircase will lead to the top so visitors can scale the monument for amazing views of the nearby IKEA and College Park Metro station.

We’ll be replicating the “DC Feel” as accurately as we can: by busing in tourists to lengthen lines, requiring advanced ticketing, and selling bottles of water and hot pretzels from a nearby food cart for double the price of our store and cafe refreshments.

In order to accommodate this new structure, we’re temporarily demolishing our main office (relocation TBD). Our guests will now get the chance to scale the monument’s 896 steps upon arrival to access our new check-in desk; what a way to jump right into your DC vacation!

We know construction of the monument could take quite some time, so we’re bringing extra DC-themed fun to the campground:

  • Try our President’s Challenge: guests who remain dressed as George Washington for the entirety of their stay will be gifted a free CHP pen (cameras must be installed inside RV for nighttime monitoring).

  • One lucky guest will be the winner of our random drawing; you’ll get a 1/5th size scale monument (111 feet tall) constructed on your front lawn! Prize includes a surprise midnight ground-breaking party, where we announce your win and start construction all at the same time!

This could be you!
